My mom is Greek. My Dad is Greek, too, but he grew up in a Jewish neighborhood in Chicago in the fifties and sixties and went to Hebrew school because all his friends were. My mother is fluent in Greek and my fahter knows hebrew. When I was beginning my deconversion process, once mom and I were watching a televangelist, and he kept referring to "The Greek meaning" of such and such word. My mother was gawking, "That's bullshit!" 9 times out of 10, when the preacher talked about a Greek meaning, it wasn't a REAL Greek meaning. Of course, most people don't know Greek, so he could just say whatever he wanted, and sound smart. After that incident, every time I heard some preacher talk about "The Greek" or "The Hebrew", I would make a note of it and ask mom or dad, respectively. Most of the time it was bullshit. |

Here Nonni I edited out a bunch of words in your post to cut to the real chase. hehehe. Why the original greek version of bullshit is any more credible than a bad english translation of bullshit is beyond me. But since people are finding out that the whole religion is bullshit, it's become a fad among christians to make a scapegoat out of the translators, to keep people from rejecting it more. |

I remember my old cult leader doing that. My study buybull also had notes that pointed out the original Greek / Hebrew. I used to think it made xtianity look well-researched. Little did I know it was another fundie way to spout off a bunch of shit. Remember the old saying...."if you can't dazzle 'em with brilliance, baffle 'em with bullshit" that is EXACTLY what fundies do. |

When I saw the title, I thought this thread would be about Jimmy the Greek. |

When someone translates into the greek/hebrew it ususally means "I cant find a version of the bible that says what I want it to say so I will try to manipulate the original to say what I want it to. Since none of you understand greek I can get away with it". |
