Does anyone know of a site similar to this one for, and I don't know exactly what to call it, liberal Christians.

By liberal I believe the following:

-The Bible is an important, even holy book. But it was written and canonized by men, relative to their time, culture and understanding of the world. It is not inerrant and was not meant to be taken literally throughout.

-There was no Adam and Eve. Genesis 1-11 is metaphor.

-Satan is symbolic of the evil we do to each other.

-Christ was God's messenger to this world. He came to show us the "way" and to tell us we were screwing up becoming too legalistic.

-Christ is one way God has revealed himself to mankind. Christianity is not the only way to heaven.

-Most of what is called sin is derived from the Jewish Bible. The only laws Jesus was concerned about was Love God, and love your brother, neighbor, enemy, etc. Jesus does not think homosexuality is sin.

-Prayer is important for us get centered in what God wants from us. Possibly, his spirit refreshes us when we pray so that we may do things that are pleasing to him. He is orchestrating a "divine" plan by playing chess with us all day.

I could go on but I think you get the picture. Is there anyplace out there on the web for someone like me?

Hey Rowdee,

Don't know. If you find something let me know. I wouldnt mind participating. It would be great to discuss this religion w/o all the fundie-ism.

I have to say this...but the irony of this question on this site...

I second that.

About a year ago, I started to search for christianity stuff on the internet... for keeping myself informed about the faith I just left and for some rational discussion. However, it looks like wherever there are christians at all there are fundie bastards too.
Of course, I guess German sites about that faith would be a much nicer place to visit, but I wanted to stay informed about the big picture, worldwide...

I don't know any with forums, but http://www.freechristians.com is an excellent liberal Christianity resource site with quite a few very good and thoughtful articles and a shitload of links. You might be able to find what you're looking for through there.

Message boards for Bishop John Shelby Spong are http://forums.prospero.com/sp-bishopspong. He's quite liberal.

Rowdy,

You described basic rabbinical Judaism, without the Yeshua part.

Correction...I meant to say "He is NOT"

The Christadelphian denomination rejects the trinity, the concept of eternal hell, and the existence of a literal satan. And in my opinion, their doctrines are by far, more supported than mainstream fundamentalism ( as far as the bible is concerned).

They still maintain their fundamental position on sexuality, salvation through christ only, etc. etc.

They have a forum that is also Invision Board format, just like this one.
