Jerry Falwell reveals his intolerance and political motivations again on the Sean Hannity radio show. The other "guest" was the pastor of the North Texas Church of Freethought, Dr. Tim Gorski. The 15 minute program was supposed to be about how much christ should be in christmas, but quickly deteriorated into a show of intolerance by Jerry and Sean. http://www.churchoffreethought.org/audio/Sean_Hannity_Show_2004-12-14.mp3 http://www.churchoffreethought.org/ |

Thanks so much TF. I listened to the whole 15 minutes. Just what I expected from Sean Hannity, he did not disappoint me at all. He belittled his guest Totally one-sided Arrogant Falwell was as pompous as ever I'm going to barf |

He has that jolly, bemused chuckle he uses whenever he wants to be condescending. Falwell: <jolly chuckle> " Yes, well, you can believe whatever you want to. You have the right to be wrong." <jolly chuckle> |

Well, I downloaded it and listened to it all the way through (although I had to fight for it, Kitty was getting sick to her stomach listening to it). All I have to say is..... Ick! :barf: Contemptable beyond words, both Hannity and Falwell. And SO unprofessional - a talk show asks a question, then refuses to listen to the answer, then asks the guest to get back on topic, then won't let him speak to the topic, and then demonstrates his utter incompetence as a debater by trying "leading you down the path" logic with yes/no questions and failing to win his point even so. Unspeakably disgusting on all levels.... And utterly depressing that clowns like these guys, and Michael Moore and Al Franken (same clowns, different party) have large audiences who hang on their every word. Woe to you, America. You donated your brain to science when you were still far too young. Now you need it - it ain't there! -Lokmer |

Even many of the christian listeners thought Jerry and Sean were nasty. Here are some comments received by the North Texas Church of Freethought after the program. (The full set of comments can be viewed on their http://www.churchoffreethought.org/)...
It's refreshing to hear respect for our beliefs from the Christian community. I think it also shows how powerfully a calm manner and intelligent tone contrast with the shrill claims of mad fish such as Falwell. |
Posted by: TexasFreethinker Dec 20 2004, 06:06 AM
And here's a typical comment from the anti-free thinkers club.
"but what in the pits of hell are you?" |

Not that you want my opinion............ But I would agree with the above quotes. |

Your opinion is quite welcome and appreciated. |

I fully agree with Tex on that, Totally At Peace. Your opinion is as welcome, appreciated and valid as any other. And I admire your calm manner and tone. I'm glad you're here. |

Falwall started to sound a little desperate at the end, resorting to the usual Christian empty talk "I hope you find Christ one day so you can enter heaven too". Is that relevent, Reverend? Nope! Just something to divert the discussion onto. |

thanks for posting this....man....I never really like Hannity before, and Falwell is an ass....but those guys TOTALLY were inconsiderate and obnoxious....why is it that the 'evil atheists' are always the calm, rational side of these dicussions? |

You know just because we don't agree with your opinion on many things, doesn't mean most of us don't want you here. Life might be boring without a Christain to argue with. Perhaps your are too inflicted by the attitude over at tribforces, which you know quite well will pitch you out on your ear if you dare dissagree too much. You may suffer from words of hostility, but so far Dave hasn't tossed anyone out merely for having a Christian point of view, and I don't think he will in the future. Just ignore any that tell you to shut up or go away, and act like Mr. Gorski rather than Mr. Falwell. Anyway I would be sad if you were not here with your opinions. |

A tender side, after all. Thanks, Chef. |

Hannity and his cohorts are waging the culture war - nothing more nothing less. Republicans can not say it enough that it was the " conservative" (although this party is far what conservatives prior to what Regan represented ) values and the affirmation of Christian God is what beat the Democrats and liberal values this election cycle. This strategy to play that good ole the persecution card against Christians by "secularists." Some stronger enemy that must be defeated by good moral god-fearing people. These righties are making a direct assertion that if you believe in a secular society, you are an atheist, liberal and anti-God and anti-Christian. Fact is, most Christians believe in a strong secular society. http://http:www.rationalrevolution.net/understanding_fascism.htm "In 1932 Mussolini declared that the 20th century would be the “Fascist century” by stating: "If it is admitted that the nineteenth century has been the century of Socialism, Liberalism and Democracy, it does not follow that the twentieth must also be the century of Liberalism, Socialism and Democracy. Political doctrines pass; peoples remain. It is to be expected that this century may be that of authority, a century of the "Right," a Fascist century." and.... Fascism was ultimately born out of, and supported by, conservatism and the belief that Western Civilization had become decadent and self-ruinous.. Sounds all too familiar to me. |

Anyone who knows me knows I'm a pacifist. The last time I was in a fight that wasn't forced upon me was when I was a teenager, almost thirty years ago. Why then is it that when I see or hear Sean Hannity, I am siezed by the desire to punch his stupid Irish face (Calm down; I'm a mick myself). If I were a Christian, I would seriously be asking forgiveness for this. As it stands, I must reflect on my beastly heritage and strive to keep my violent impulses subdued. Besides, Sean is younger than I am, and maybe a little bigger. He might kick my ass. Falwell, on the other hand, inspires no violent thoughts. I just want to talk to him and find out why he's such a hater. I think we could talk and disagree while maintaining moderate voice tone. Hannity and I would have to be separated, because I wouldn't let him push me around the way he does his "guests". And I know what he'd do next. Wasn't it Asimov who said, "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent"? |

Doesn't matter. Old age and treachery will prevail over youth and vitality. |
Posted by: Ro-bear Dec 20 2004, 04:30 PM
*sigh* I fear my treachery has also atrophied with age. I still have good forearms, though. I'm pretty sure I could beat him at darts. |

Yeah... one of the characters in the Foundation series, Salvor Hardin, used that one a lot. And I didn't even have to look that up... |

The issue of where Tim Gorski went to school to become a pastor seemed a major issue with Falwell and Hannity. I wish Tim would have reminded them thay Jesus did not attend Liberty Baptist College. Even if Tim Gorski had attended "Liberty and Freethought University," I doubt it would have made much difference it how he was treated. |

Many pastors of small christian churches are not graduates of seminaries, and many small christian churches don't have their own buildings - they meet in homes or schools or meeting halls just like the NTCoF. Falwell didn't have the intellect or moral ground to win the debate about the topic at hand, so he tried to attack Gorski's credibility. That's immoral - how can a god-filled man like Falwell do such a thing? |
Posted by: Reach Dec 21 2004, 11:09 AM
Because he's a "god-filled" man and apparently, the Christian God is immoral. |
