I thought I'd post this in the Debates forum, where Neil is most likely to hang out. Reach can move this thread later if anyone has a problem with it being here. I didn't want any of you to miss the fact that Neil is officially a professional artist. YAY!!! I got my new avatar from Neil! Neil, now that you're a professional artist, I think I should mention something for your safety. The huge, shadowy and powerful Cartoon Artists' Union will be looking for you. It's widely known that due to the tremendous amounts of money and political power they wield, they were long ago heavily infiltrated by the Mafia. There is also some evidence that they may be an arm of the CIA or the Illuminati, or both. We do know from historical documents that Adam Weishaupt, George Washington and Aleistar Crowley were cartoonists, and there seem to be a number of connections between these groups. So be careful, Neil. They don't like freelancers. Their Mafia connections especially seem to be very... adamant about how they deal with nonunion cartoonists. One freelancer was paid a visit by CAU enforcers some years ago. They papered him into a thirty foot high picture of Mickey Mouse on a Disney billboard. Those who know what's really going on know that Jimmy Hoffa was encased in a large cement statue of Bullwinkle at a Florida theme park. Another freelancer's body parts were found animated into various cute puppy and kitten gifs at a Hallmark website. It was horrifying. Neil, these guys don't like competition; they don't like not getting their cut, and they will be looking for you. I'm sure I'm not telling you anything that you don't already know; no doubt you're already taking decisive action to either get into the CAU, or find a good hiding place, weapons cache and complete identity change. But just in case you don't know, I wanted to warn you. Be alert. Stay frosty. Keep your back to the wall. Don't trust anybody you don't know. And good luck. The life of a professional cartoonist is nasty, brutish and short. Thank you so much, Neil! I love my avatar! I hope your career is wildly successful! In admiration and gratitude, Loren |

Sweet! Ever since I was first invited to come to this site, in August of 2003, I have admired the work of our own cartoonist, Neil. Earlier this year, I had the *brilliant* idea that it would be so much fun to have him design an avatar for me. Loren thought the same way, as you can surmise. Not huge pieces of work for Neil, but another opportunity to show a slice of his work, here, where so many of us make our home... When my two children saw this picture, they both said, "Mom, it looks exactly like you." I think they are the authorities on this one as they have known me longer than most people. Neil, without gushing all over the place, I'll leave it at this; I'm thankful for this piece from you and most grateful for your friendship and the many things that I have learned from you. Others are others; you are you. It is a wonderful thing to be indebted to a friend but you, Neil, are more like family. Much love, Reach P.S. Isn't it great to have our own family's art to hang on the walls at Ex-C? This topic is pinned in recognition of this achievement. |

Great work Neil! Congratulations Loren and Reach for having the first two professional "Neils". |

How do I get mine? An ex-boyfriend once said I had a "cartoon face," so it should be easy work for Neil. Seriously, Neil, watch out for those CAU guys. Some of them are even rumored to be (gasp) lawyers. Ren |

I had the great fortune of seeing Reach's avatar the day she got it, and have been waiting in dire suspense for Loren's ever since. Neil, you have outdone yourself with these two. I love your work in Daisen, but these... You have captured in caricature the true hearts and characters of two of the most beautiful and delightful people I have ever met - when I look at them I want to laugh and cry all at once. They bring back memories of golden moments in the summer sunshine and long talks in the dark at night when the world was bleak. You've captured their innermost joy in those faces. Absolutely delightful, Neil. It's a privilege to trod the same boards as you. -Lokmer |

I'd love to see a cartoon rendition of myself. |

Your work is excellent, Neil. You could also do political satire, professional film animation....anything really. IMO you're good enough. What makes these two avatars so special, is the delightful expressions on the faces. They are "sweet", Reach. No doubt about it. With as much talent as you have, you can go as far as you want to Neil. Congratulations from a fellow artisan, and much success to you in your future endeavors. Best regards, K |

They're awesome! The avatars, I mean... I mean... the people are. Well, both of'em are... No, wait... That would be the four of them, wouldn't it? First you got Reach, then Loren, then you have Reach's avatar and Loren's avatar. That's four! So yeah, all four of'em are awesome! That's great work, Neil! |

Who is CAU? I'm scared to death of them. Do they operate in NZ or only in America? Neil is indeed a great cartoonist. But I am a cartoonist. I made my avatar myself and the old timers here remember my old cartoons. |

You'll probably recognize their more common name... Marvel Comics |
Posted by: Messi Dec 12 2004, 06:47 PM |
Marvel? Shit! Or joking? Really, I'm not after drawing superhero comics. I'd be happier drawing satiric comics.. |

I honestly do not *know* how Neil picked up so much of my personality in one little avatar. My children were floored by this. I'm sure he's not omniscient... |
Posted by: Challenger1 Dec 13 2004, 10:41 AM | ||
Reach, is your personality anything like this. . ? |
