I think we canmostly agree they're pretty mad. But I just recently read about the 'reprogramming' program where people are forced and locked underground and forced to do slave work for the church... it's creepy.

Place comments here. Xtianity I think is better than the Church of Scientology.

Posted by: ineedtranquilitynow May 13 2004, 07:32 AM
Even being programmed in the islamic faith would be preferable to the treatment you just mentioned.

Posted by: YoungInFaithlessness May 13 2004, 08:10 AM
Well, I'm not sure about underground slavery, but I have heard that you move up in the church with money. Like, the more money you give to the church the higher you are with their god or belief . All in all I think it's just another cult tryingto get rich quick....my opinion only!!!

Isn't John Travolta with them?

I need to start a church like that

I don't know, that sounds almost too sensational to be true. Like a rival spreading lies to malign them.

I WAS IN THIS SO I KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT WHEN I RESPOND HERE. YES, JOHN TRAVOLTA IS WELL KNOWN FOR HIS AFFILIATION WITH THEM, AS ARE A NUMBER OF OTHER ACTORS/ACTRESSES/POLITICIANS AND THOSE IN THE PUBLIC EYE. THIS IS ONE OF THEIR STRATEGIES TO "TAKE OVER THE WORLD." AND YES, THEY LITERALLY HAVE A PLAN AND A STRATEGY TO DO THAT. THEY ARE ON THE GOVERNMENT'S SUBVERSIVES LIST TOO.

DO THEY REALLY LOCK PEOPLE IN THE BASEMENT - WELL - NOT WHEN I WAS IN IT THEY DIDN'T - BUT - THINGS CHANGE. IF YOU LEAVE AND THEN DECIDE TO COME BACK, YOU HAVE TO "MAKE AMENDS" - AND ONE OF THE WAYS YOU DO THAT IS BY AGREEING TO DO ALL THE STUFF THAT IS CONSIDERED "UNPLEASANT" BY EVERYONE ELSE. THERE WERE THESE TWO KIDS WHEN I WAS THERE THAT ACTUALLY WERE MADE TO CLEAN THE BIG GARBAGE DUMPSTERS OUT WITH TOOTHEBRUSHES.

THE WHOLE THING IS BASED ON A COUPLING TOGETHER OF NEW AGE SPIRITUALITY AND THE MILITARY. THE FOUNDER WAS L. RON HUBBARD - AND WHEN YOU GO TO MORNING "MUSTER" MEETINGS, THERE'S THIS BIG PICTURE OF HIM AND EVERYONE STANDS UP AND CLAPS. WHAT DOES THAT REMIND Y'ALL OF? EVER BEEN IN A PENTECOSTAL SERVICE. YEAH, THEY TREATED THE GUY LIKE GOD. WHEN I QUESTIONED THEM ON THIS, THEY SAID IT WAS JUST A MATTER OF GIVING HIM RESPECT, LIKE WHEN THE PRESIDENT OF THE U.S. WOULD WALK IN AND EVERYONE WOULD STAND UP AND CLAP (NOT ME. I MIGHT STAND UP, BUT I WOULDN'T CLAP)

THE CHURCH IS NOT NECESSARILY MONETARILY BASED. THEY TREAT YOU THAT LIFE IS A GAME, AND YOU ARE GREETED WITH SUCCESS DEPENDING ON HOW YOU PLAY THE GAME, THAT YOU HAD ALL THESE PAST LIVES THAT TAUGHT YOU HOW TO DO ALL THIS STUFF, AND ALSO IS WHY YOU'RE PROBABLY EMOTIONALLY AND SPIRITUALLY MESSED UP. THEY TALK A LOT ABOUT DYNAMICS TOO. YOU MOVE UP IN THE CHURCH ACCORDING TO YOUR JOB PERFORMANCE - JUST LIKE ANY OTHER BUSINESS. I WAS A GREAT "COM RUNNER" (I DELIVERED THE MAIL) BUT THEN THEY MOVED ME UP TO "RECRUITING," I'M NOT GOOD AT PROSELYTIZING SO I WAS LOUSY AT THAT JOB, BUT I LEFT BEFORE THEY ACTUALLY DEMOTED ME. ANYHOW, YOUR PAY SCALE IS BASED ON YOUR POSITION - EVERYONE SHARES THE "PROFITS" FROM THE CHURCH ACCORDING TO POSITION (GRADE - SOUNDS LIKE MILITARY/GOVERNMENT PAY SCALE, RIGHT?) AND ACCORDING TO HOW MUCH "PROFIT" THE CHURCH MAKES. AVERAGE PAY WHEN I WAS THERE WAS ABOUT $33 A WEEK, BUT THAT WAS LIKE AGES AGO. EVERYONE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR TRYING TO HELP THE "CHURCH" ACHIEVE ITS MONETARY AND PHILOSOPHICAL GOALS. JUST LIKE A CORPORATION. THIS IS MORE IN LINE WITH SOCIALISM/COMMUNISM. MOST EVERYONE LIVES WITH SOMEONE ELSE IN THE CHURCH IN ORDER TO SURVIVE. EVERYONE SHARES WITH ONE ANOTHER.

YOU GO THROUGH COUNSELING SESSIONS THAT REGRESS YOU THROUGH YOUR PAST LIVES TO BECOME AN "O.T." WHICH TRANSLATES INTO "OPERATING THETA" - YOU BECOME A "CLEAR" OR IN OTHER WORDS, TOTALLY BRAINWASHED. THE "COUNSELORS" PROCESS YOU THROUGH YOUR PAST LIVES IN ORDER TO DO THIS. IT COSTS MONEY FOR THESE COUNSELING SESSIONS. PEOPLE CAN EITHER PAY FOR THEM OUTRIGHT, FINANCE THEM THROUGH A BANK, OR YOU CAN BECOME A MEMBER OF THE CHURCH AND WORK THEM OFF. IF THE CHURCH ISN'T MAKING ANY MONEY OR YOUR PARTICULAR "STATS" ARE DOWN, YOU DON'T GET TO GO TO THE COUNSELING SESSIONS. THE COUNSELORS DRESS UP IN THE BLACK GARB OF A PRIEST AND WEAR WHITE COLLARS WHEN THEY ARE WORKING UNDER THEIR COUNSELOR "HAT" AND YES, THEY HAVE MANY THERE THAT WEAR OR HAVE MANY DIFFERENT "HATS." SO, NO, YOU DON'T MOVE UP ACCORDING TO HOW MUCH MONEY YOU GIVE THE CHURCH, YOU MOVE UP ACCORDING TO HOW YOU ARE ABLE TO FUNCTION IN POLITICAL/MILITANT/SOCIAL DYNAMICS.

LIKE ANY OTHER "CHURCH" THOUGH, I BELIEVE THEY DO ACCEPT PERSONAL CONTRIBUTIONS/DONATIONS and FOR THE MOST PART THESE ARE EVEN TAX DEDUCTIBLE. L RON WAS A PRETTY SMART GUY IF YOU ASK ME - HE HAD A HAREM OF WOMEN, HE GOT RICH OFF ESTABLISHING SCIENTOLOGY AS A RELIGION BECAUSE OF THE DEFINITION OF WHAT A RELIGION IS, IT AND THE "CHURCH" QUALIFIED FOR TAX EXEMPT STATUS, WHICH IS WHY HE DID IT, THEY KNOW IT'S WHY HE DID IT AND THE GOVERNMENT CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE OF THE DEFINITIONAL ARGUMENT AND HE MADE WADS OF CASH THROUGH THE SALE OF HIS BOOK, DIANETICS - WHICH IS SOLD TO BIG NAME POLITICOS AND CELEBS AT ALL KINDS OF SUARES AND LECTURES, ETC.

FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND/HAVE HEARD/READ - NOW HIS SON IS RUNNING THE SHOW AND IT ISN'T LIKE IT USED TO BE.

I WAS ONLY INVOLVED WITH IT FOR THREE MONTHS. I'M GLAD I GOT SCARED ENOUGH TO TAKE OFF - I HAD TO SNEAK OUT WHEN THEY WEREN'T LOOKING. EVERYONE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR LOOKING OUT FOR ONE ANOTHER AND IS SUPPOSED TO REPORT ANYONE WHO THEY THINK IS ABOUT TO "BLOW" - WHICH IS THE WORD THEY USE FOR RUNNING OFF.

THAT'S MY SPIEL. I WAS THERE. I KNOW PRETTY MUCH WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. THANKS.

FF

That is very interesting...would you say they are a cult? It sounds like it. I think I got the "giving money to get higher" part is the counseling part that you were talking about, FF. The person who explained it to me obviously didn't know what they were taliking about.

Posted by: CodeWarren May 13 2004, 11:29 AM
Thanks a bunch for that, FF. That was highly informative. Do Scientologists have their own version of how the world was created, or anything like that, or how humanity was created?

Posted by: Lokmer May 13 2004, 11:57 AM
Yes, they do, and it's a looong and silly story. I'll dig around and see if I can find it and post it up here.

BTW, the church of Scientology is no longer tax exempt in this country

Also, for those wanting to read a fictionalized account of the scientologist vision for the world, check out "If This Goes On..." by Robert A. Heinlein. He was a good friend of Hubbard's until Hubbard started Scientology, at which point Heinlein wanted nothing more to do with him.

And it has something to do with alien spirits and clams.

They are a weird bunch.

Posted by: formerfundie May 13 2004, 12:54 PM
Yes, it is definitely a cult.

Lokmer - please do, I'd be really interested in reading that as the cult has taken part in part of the history of my life - and from what Kitty says, it should be a hoot and a half to read. I'm glad they no longer have tax exempt status - but how and when did that happen - like I said - it was ages ago when I was around 18 years old. They had a church in Coral Gables and I was young and lonely, looking for a social outlet, ya know, and got suckered into it. I had issues with it then, just like I eventually developed my issues with christianity. The mind control is similar in my opinion, and it makes me ANGRY.

FF

Alien spirits and clams? Hilarious! I'm not surprised though, really.

Posted by: Quicksand May 13 2004, 01:07 PM
Thanks FF.

I have always wondered about that bunch. I guess the rumors should be even stronger than they are now.

I am feeling so right today in my skeptism and contempt over all religions.

Scientology is one of the ugliest sectarian shit on Earth.

Go to their website...
Than, do a lenghtly research...

Yes, there is much worse than christianity.

ps: Travolta and Tom Cruise are in it. yahoo!

Quentin commited suicide years ago. Guess why?

By the way, I know an awful lot about scientology. ;)

Oh FUCK, Scientology is creepy weirdo gross.

I think that I will investigate it further. I think that John Travolta is an alright actor simply because he was in Pulp Fiction and I think that Tom Cruise is okay too but what train did they fucking fall off of to end up in Scientology . . . blah, ugh . . . it is almost as bad as Mel Gibson being Catholic.

By the way, good topic Luck!

When I was about 19 and in college I began reading a book on Scientology with interest. I thought that "dianetics" was interesting. I would've only joined if the cult wouldv'e promised me a pretty, romantic girl and guaranteed marriage. But since there was no indication of a promise- I pretty much lost interest in Scientology.

Well if Tom Cruise is in it...what more do I need.

how did i know that a topic about this particular establishment would arise? i personally,do not care one bit about the plans of the followers of this faith or whatever it is categorized as. i really have no beef with these people. i know that alot of hollywood folks are in to it. what are the teachings of this religion,oh yeah,i will look it up.

tom cruise,is a prominent figure of this particular sect, and i am still somewhat amazed at how many women still throng and google for the guy, with the knowledge that he doesn't believe the way they do. i guess no matter what the faith,if the person who believes has tremendous sex appeal, the people who adore still feels that "fortunehooks" no pun intended.

Posted by: YoungInFaithlessness May 13 2004, 09:08 PM
I knew john travolta was in it, but i didn't know that tom cruise was in it too. very interesting...probobly not that many people know about it then, unless they were researching it.

Wait a second, isn't that a little sexist? Did you expect one in wrapping paper willing to do your bidding? Yeah yeah I know you didn't mean it entirely that way, just saying - I'm keeping you in check- look, it was important for me to bring it up, ok? Don't get mad...and beat me.

Seriously though , yes Travolta is in it - apparently Giovanni Rabisi is in it too, and they all hate psychiatry. lol. I admit psychiatry is a tricky tricky field filled with quacks but it's also done me alot of good.

Posted by: Baby Eater May 14 2004, 08:37 PM
There are dozens of celebrities in it. I lost the list.

I recommend looking on google for "OT III", have a good laugh. It's the funniest of all levels, except maybe for the one that says that Jesus was a pedophile but that's another story.

That thing he's holding can cost some thousands of dollars. These auditions are also quite expensive... insanely expensive.
Now, guess what he's holding...

Nothing sexist intended here. I am describing the way I thought in college. I was so utterly desperate for romance that I would've joined a cult if they promised marriage and for that matter- someone who I would've been very attracted to.

Have fun

ps: the guy was a sci-fi writter...

Of course, they won't talk about their little tax evasions, frauds, Rehabilitation project Force, sectarian nature, deceptions, abuse of emotionaly unstable people, etc.
Look at the FAQ section for a good laugh.

http://www.scientology.org/en_US/world/betterment/narconon/index.html
You take vitamins and saunas to get to "evacuate" the dirty drugs. While you are doing this, you are being sucked money and presented dianetic leading to scientology.
They claim such a program have a 100% efficiency. They even have their little graphic in the statistics section where they show something like "drug before, drug after" with of course a 0% "drug use after".

Did you knew they targeted NY's firefighter after 9-11? Truly merciless in hunting for anxious, stressed and insecure preys.

We better remove our posts before they sue us.

Here are some interesting links to check out. For all those who don’t know what Scientology is about, you’ll be shocked after reading these.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientology:_Controversial_Issues
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientology_vs._the_Internet
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_Scientology
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientology_and_the_Legal_System

Scientology is weird, but if one wants to practice Scientology honestly, I take no issue with that. I respect all people equally regardless of faith. If one wants to believe that humans evolved from clams, whatever, no problem. But if one want to engage in litigious browbeating and racketeering in order to further their cause (which apparently most of the Scientologist leaders have done) then that is what I take issue with because it is wrong.

Rawr. There's a Chruch of Scientology just down the street from where I live. When I found out about this, I nearly had a coronary It was like "The FUCK?? They're here in PHOENIX?!? NOOOO! My perfect paradise has been forever defiled...!"

I WAS gonna include them in my planned "Church Survey", but my roommate dissuaded me from it, saying that they'd probably either try to "convert" me, or sue me...

Though, that's not gonna stop me on Halloweeeeeen....

Sorry everyone. Carry on.

LadyFeline, just tell one that you have passed directly the "wall of fire" without going through the initial grades and OT I and OT II. Tell them about Xenu and thetans. Tell them you are as Hubbard, that you managed yourself to avoid being killed by the implant. Watch reaction and either prepare to look like an idiot or take them by surprise.

(you are supposed to die if you learn about what OT III says because of some automatic security implant of Xenu that kill you when you discover his great secret.)

I am not fond of such organizations. Part of my family was swallowed by "jehovas witnesses". I think otherwise they could have become some fine guys. Thanks for all the information here and I am lucky, that you found a way out FF! If it would help, I would be tempted to start burning churches...

wow that is some scary stuff. those people just ain't right.

QUOTE
The results of applying their crackpot psychotherapy (called "auditing") is to weaken the mind. The mind goes from a rational state to an irrational one as the delusional contents of the subconscious mind are brought to the surface and are assumed to be valid. It also makes a person more susceptible to suggestion since it submerges the critical thinking faculties of the mind into a partial subconscious state. It results in a permanent light hypnotic trance and so from thenceforth that person can be more easily controlled. The person will, to a much greater extent, believe and do whatever they are told. And of course this is used to the full in persuading them to hand over further money and dedicating themselves further to the cult.

Time magazine did a big write up on this a few years back. They did a very good job of it. And I have watched a few news pieces of the situation they have in germany. From what I understand germany wants them to go away.

Yay Germany!
