I know there are plenty of Babylon 5 fans here. So, check in!

What are your favorite episodes, characters, and situations. And why do you love Bab 5?

I've only seen a couple of episodes, but it seemed like a very good show. If it came on during a time where I could watch it I probably would.

It seemed to me on the level with deepspace nine.

SF,

at first glance, Bab5 indeed looks very similar to DS9, especially if you compare the first few episodes of both. When I did, about ten years ago, I thought "Well, the station looks different, the people aboard look different, but basically it's a DS9 ripoff" (Little did I know that the opposite is true ).
But... as soon as the main story arc got going (Ep #13, "Signs and portents") I was hooked. Honestly SF, if you want to see the difference you have to watch Bab5 continously.

Kitten,

I can only state what currently looks favorite to me of course - there's so much good stuff in there...

Best ep, I think, is "The very long night of Londo Mollari". Talk about your conscience hitting you square in the face with a sledge hammer... I was shaken when I saw it the first time.

Characters... Morden (hey, in the goo' ol' days in FidoNet I called myself "Advocatus Umbrae" for a reason ), and I have always been fascinated by Talia Winters, especially since she always reminded me of someone in my circly of acquaintances.

Situations, oh well, so many amazing situations in there... and I only have about half an hour before I have to surrender Islington's computer back to her (greetings from her, and she just said that she will comment on this thread too, whenever that will be). Wait, one situation occurs to me - the "religious epiphany" of G'Kar in "Dust to dust", transforming him from the hateful warrior into a believer of G'Lan AKA Kosh Naranek ... such an intense scenery!

Why do I love Bab5? Because of the epic, complex, interwoven story line that literally spans all 110 episodes, and the realism inherent in the story and the character development. The basic principles of the show ("We are grey" in the sense of "neither purely good nor purely evil", "No one here is exactly as he appears" and "If you become obsessed with the enemy you become the enemy") are perfectly realistic, more so than every other SciFi TV show I know.

Especially the concept of "Good and Evil" being replaced by "Order and Chaos", and the principle of necessary balance of both, are presented very well.

I've watched B5 as much as I could.

One of these days I want to buy the DVDs.

Sit at home and watch them all.

def, my 2nd fave sci-fi tv series.

Two episodes heavily impacted my life: "Whatever Happened to Mr. Girabaldi" and "Passing Through Gethsemane." The peeling of life down to the basics while Sheradin is with Lorien - particularly the line "Your friends need who you can be when you are no longer afraid. When you know who you are, and why you are, and what you want. When you are no longer fleeing from death, but can simply be."

And in "Passing", the scene where Edward tells Delenn about the garden of Gethsemane...and the raw character and courage he shows at the end. Amazing.

No doubt about it, Vir is my favorite character on B5. The transformation in him seems amazing, but he shows some quiet strength at the beginning with the whole Lincolni thing. That is probably my favorite episode-- he blows his chance at status in the Empire because he is compassionate, but in the end he saves the Empire because he goes with his conscience rather than with form.

Yay, Flounder

Of course, all of the characters seem to become the opposite of themselves-- G'Kar's transformation into peaceful philosopher is a good example.

I knew I was a geek, by the way, when I cried at the (real) last episode.

Well, not all of them. Morden... Lord Refa... and especially Bester...

I guess we're all geeks then. I was at least close to crying... especially when I recognized the face of the technician shutting down the fusion reactor.

Ummm... "we're all geeks"...

We are all Kosh!

don't worry...us geeks are sexy now!

B5...

I love it. Its my favorite SF-series.

Why? Well... There is a story going through al the episodes, nearly al of the Characters are changing and there is a deepness in it, I missed in al the other series.

My favorite Chara is Bester. I hate him. I only know a few "evil" Charas played so good, that I can say that about them - respect to the artist!

I like the scene when Vir get the special present from Londo... you know, that on the place in front of the Centauri-palace. ))

Episode... episode... hum... I guess, every episode with the PSI-corps and especial with Bester, where he is breaking al the rules of good behavior because of his position...

When I saw it first, I identified myself mostly with Londo Molary - trying to do the right but always getting the wrong results. I think, it hasn't changed, for he finds his way to go along with it and in that, solace. Somehow just like me.

I haven't seen the end jet, but will, when I have tidied up my B5-archive.

I don't know what God would say about Alien chickens...

Famous Talmud quote on "are aliens kosher?":
Rabbi Zev: I don't know about you, but I wouldn't eat'em.

Anyone know of any good sites to get the episodes downloaded off of?

B5 was the reason I had a TV.

The revealing of Kosh at the end of year 2 had me in tears.

End of year 3 and 4 was just incredible.

The whole thing was a masterpiece.

What to people think of JMS’s work since then?

I really enjoyed Crusade and City of Dreams.

Most of the rest of what he's been doing is stuck in Development Hell as far as I can tell.
