The initials of the new series is Babylon 5: TMOS

Here's some of what the Big guy has said (the original producer, Rick Berman won't get the chance to screw up b5 muhahahaha!)

He posted this on April 29th
QUOTE
I know I've been absent for a while now, but there are reasons, especially in
regards to B5:TMoS. In a project of this nature, and this size, there's stage
one (let's do this) stage two (let's make everybody's deal) and stage three
(making it). We're hip-deep in stage two just now, and it's taking a freaking
long amount of time to get through it all. Stage two is also the most
unnerving and nerve-wracking stage when there's a lot of money involved, as
there is in this situation.

So every day is a case of "Are we there yet?" and being told yes...almost.

I swear, it's the kind of thing that could lead a monk to murder.

Thing of it is...there's a LOT happening right now in the B5 universe, on a
multitude of fronts, some of it in response to TMoS, some of it coming up
completely on its own. All I can say at this moment is that if you've been
waiting for new stuff in the B5 universe, you may be getting your wish in
spades very soon.

Soon, I promise, all will be made clear. I don't like being Mr. Mysterioso on
this, but if I say too much, the-powers-that-be will use my head to make a
2.35:1 sized hole in the wall.

JMS has said that the new series has been entirely written, and we should be getting some more information this month.

Let's hope that the powers that be will be willing to fund the production of the whole thing.

By the way, referring to other productions (--> Berman): I remember that someone once asked JMS a funny question and got an answer that started one of my best laughing flashes ever...

Q: "JMS, what would be the Minbari word for Titanic?"

A: "Tr'k Voy'aghr..."

LOL! I love it!

ROFL!!!

From the WB B5 forums:
QUOTE

Found it! The whole thing is worth a read. Below I listed the parts that specifially to Star Trek in it's various guises. For those who are, or were, fans of Star Trek, be sure to check out where he talks about what he would do if he were in charge of a show like Trek.

(By the way, according to some who saw JMS at a New Jersey conference, he was asked about the possibility of replacing Berman and/or Bragga. He reportedly replied something like "I actually can't comment on that right now." WOW! That would be too cool! Go to B5tv.com for more. Go to "forums," then "B5.related" and look for the topic "JMS live in New Jersey" or something like that. It's probably the best B5 forum out there in terms of activity.)

Anywho here's the chat:

http://www.scifi.com/transcripts/2000/jmstraczynski_two.html

Here's the Star Trek stuff:

Moderator: Many, many people in the room seem to want to know what you think of Star Trek in its various guises?

jmsatb5: In its various GUISES? What, it's been seen wearing a trenchcoat and funny glasses? Okay...here's the skinny....

jmsatb5: Original Star Trek: it doesn't get much better than that, folks.

[JJ's note: Preaching to the choir!]

jmsatb5: Next Generation: A lot of good stuff balanced against the problem that they began to decide that what ST was...was technobabble and solving problems by inverting the phase warp generator... [JJ's note: Amen!]

jmsatb5: DS9...they had a nice arc to the story...too bad it was ours....

[JJ's note: insert cat-like hiss]

jmsatb5: Voyager: a good premise with lots of potential conflict softened and with all the corners knocked off. It could've been so much more....

[JJ's note: He shoots. He shores!]

jmsatb5: Here's what it comes down to for me, in relation to ST: If I had a show in which I *knew* it would be renewed each season, that had a name going in that guaranteed an audience, that had a huge empire behind it...

jmsatb5: I'd take every opportunity to USE that venue to push stories to the wall, to do experimental stories, controversial stories, stories with teeth and claws and passion because in most situations...

jmsatb5: they say, "Oh, you can't risk that, you'll lose the audience." But the ST audience is a loyal one...and the Empire will make money off it regardless...

jmsatb5: so why not take it to the wall? If you have this terrific fast car, why keep it in the garage? To me, it's a catalog of missed opportunities. But that's just my subjective POV, your mileage may vary.

[JJ's Note: Paramount, give this man the keys! Hell, this guy writes 10 hours a day, he can oversee the direction of Trek and still do Babylon 5. Remember the guy wrote just about every B5 episode and produced the show. He doesn't need to write Trek, just give it direction. Plenty of time...but studio politics seems to make this posibility hard to imagine.]

Wouldn't that be sooo cool if JMS took over Berman's job?

Could cause a collective brain burnout with all the fundie trekkies...

LET'S ROLL!

Fuck the fundy Trekkies. I have fundy Trekkie friends, and I still don't get how they think the two can coexist peacefully.

And let's not forget all the fundy Lurkers who love B5 because the monks were sympathetic characters, the first commander was Catholic (even though he ends up being the prophet of an alien species' religion), and a major character with sex appeal is a virgin, but are in denial that Talia and Susan were anything but friends and don't comprehend that the entire series is a modern myth on humanity's abandonement of gods.

Posted by: Tocis May 18 2004, 11:33 AM
Ouch, I should have been more specific. In this case I meant "fundie" referring to the adoration of all the trek stuff. You know, the kind of people who tell you that even Star Wars' Death Star couldn't harm the Enterprise D because Riker said in episode (yadda yadda) that lasers can't penetrate their shields, period.

As for the rest of your posting, kitten, I have to admit that it wasn't that obvious that Susan and Talia had "a brief but passionate thing going", to quote the Great Maker. As for what else you mentioned, though...

Ah... you were meaning the rabid Trekkies that take those "25 Reasons Star Trek is Better than Star Wars" lists seriously, and not fundamentalists who are also major Trekkies.

Gotcha.

I know a few that are in denial of it even after the "I think I loved Talia" confession and hearing an interview with JMS confirming that, yes, there was something going on there. I think they ended up sticking their fingers in their ears and repeating in a strange, sing-song voice, "there are no lesbians in Earth force!"

Personally, I think the hand stretched across a rumpled bed looking for Susan was kind of a giveaway, but, yeah, I do agree that it is set up to be subtle rather than the regular television approach of putting up a neon sign "HEY, LOOKIE HERE!! HOT LESBIAN ACTION HERE!!! WOO HOO!!!"

The "fundie" trekkies I know hate Rick Berman with a passion. They think he should die. Not just any death, but a horrible, slow, painful death for ruining Trek.

I'm inclined to agree with them *evil grin*

And while "woodsmoke" isn't a "fundie" per say, he's one of the one's who'd like to see him slowly die

This is quite true. Rick Berman is widely regarded among serious Trekkies as an agent of Satan, if not the Prince of Darkness himself.

That would have been Episode 4 of season 2, entitled "The Outrageous Okana," and it was Picard that said it, not Riker. The exact line is "They could fire until their lasers ran dry and they wouldn't hurt the Enterprise."

And no, I'm not a fundy-trekkie. I'm just obsessive-compulsive when it comes to citing sources ;)

Accepted. I admit it's been a long time since I watched that myself.

Yeah, it was wonderfully subtle. Aaah, remembering all the wild debating in the Bab5 echos on FidoNet back then, until the Great Maker finally clarified it all...
